Formulate Your Morning Routine If You Want to Be Productive
Do you have a morning routine? What is the first thing you do when you get out of bed in the morning?
Morning ritual is something you do in part of your daily morning. It is essential if you want to have a productive day.
Basically, morning routine means a set of activities that you will do right after you wake up from your bed. A good routine will give you a great start of the day.
This is very important, because how you start the day is how you end the day.
There are many people suffer the problem of waking up without getting up. Chances are, these people don't have a consistent morning routine. A good routine will energize you, inspire you, give you the full energy to execute your day.
Because you feel good about getting up. Once you liked and used to the routine, you won't feel bad or uncomfortable to get up from your bed. You wake up happy, vibrant and full of life, you'll be alerted it's a new day, you'll start to fight for the day.
If you have a bad start, your condition and emotion will not be in a good status in order that it ruins your productivity. Therefore, when you wake up, you want to do your morning routine. Even if you're late to wake up that day, you are in a rush to work, or study, make it non-negotiable. You're going to run the routine in whatsoever situation.
Many people never think about it before or don't bother about it. But those people who experimented it, it gives them great result.
How a morning routine looks like?
Every person has different morning routine. If you haven't setup yours, let me introduce mine to you.
First of all, the first thing I do when I wake up is go to drink water.
You body doesn't consume any water during your sleep time. And when you're sleeping for hours, your body loses water. Once you are lack of water, your metabolism will be slower.
Therefore, it's important to hydrate your body after sleeping. Basically I drink around 500ml (16 ounces) of water after wake up. Don't drink only a sip of water, drink more, one or two cups is sufficient. You never know how much water your body needs.
Keep good hygiene
This one is very basic. You may sweat while sleeping or else that you are unhygienic when you wake up.
After drinking water, I go to brush my teeth and take a shower. Keep good hygiene will make you feel fresh, and you feel your body is ready to move. Enough said.
Stretch your body
Your body is stiff after a long time laying on bed. I do some light stretching exercises to increase my flexibility such as touch my toes with straight legs, 5 minutes walk, etc etc. Here'a good video teaching you a 5 minutes stretching routine.
Make sure your muscles are ALIVE and AWAKE, so you can start your good day.
Don’t skip breakfast
Breakfast provides the body and brain energy after overnight fast. That's why it called 'break-fast'.
I like to have a small meal such as oat bread with a cup of coffee as my breakfast. Caffeine can stimulate your brain so it boosts your mental focus and concentration.
While having breakfast I will read something to feed my mind. I may open my emails to read. Or read some books. Just to learn one or two things from reading.
What my favorite is read some success stories or motivational quotes, these engage my emotions. I feel recharged, energized and passionate in my life after exposed to positivity materials. This allows me start off the day feeling remarkable.
Review your vision and purpose
After the breakfast, I remind what my VISION and PURPOSE for my life is. I remind what my goal and dream for my life is.
So I won't get distract to execute the whole day. I always remind myself where my direction is. I always know where should I go, where I shouldn't. I don't feel blurred what my life is about.
Review your plan of the day
After that, I review the plan of the day that I was planned last night. So I will be certain about the activities that needed to carry out on the next day. Fail to plan is planning to fail. Having a plan for each day will help you to stay focus and be productive.
I plan what should I have done from morning until the bed time. So I can confirm how should I carry out the day without lefting important tasks behind.
First things first. If that day is allowed, I will do the most important thing which is the highest leverage activity first. For example, write this article.
It's your turn to create a morning routine!
The complete morning routine from drinking water to review the plan of the day supposedly doesn't spend you more than two hour. This is my morning routine, it works for me.
However, it may not works for you. You don't have to create the same routine as mine. Your routine can be different and unique for you. This is a rich place for experimentation, you can refine your routine until you're satisfied.
Do what works for you. You may already have a morning routine that you may not be aware of. It could be open Facebook, open television, play games, etc etc. But these are not productive stuffs, these will not help you to reach your goals. You have to formulate your routine that benefits you.
The key is, do it every morning consistently, if you want to be productive.
You have to commit to your morning routine no matter what. After doing it some times like 30 days, you'll build a momentum to carry it out. It becomes a nature of your daily morning. It becomes your habit. And I guarantee it, your life will transform. It's a big loss if you give up to try it out.
